Each year, Team DW&S writes a story for the Fall edition, “Sip & Stay.” It is a tradition and a story that we look forward to writing. We love the Virginia food and beverage scene, and we love taking long weekends to explore. Combining those loves just makes sense for DW&S Magazine.
Although our travel reality has changed due to COVID-19, we want to continue our Fall tradition and provide a list of places to spend the weekend. We cannot write our travel (out of Virginia) column this year, but we can take a road trip across Virginia.
Is Virginia specialty lodging open? Yes, they are, and there is an option for any weekend travel lover and budget. So, here is our Sip & Stay 2020 list.
Checking in with Old Friends
If you have been reading our Sip & Stay list for the last few years, you may be wondering how some of our lodging favorites are doing during the COVID-19 crisis. We called and visited many, and here is an update as we are checking in with old friends.

Devils Backbone Basecamp Campground: Did you know that Devils Backbone Basecamp in Nelson County, VA has a campground? The camp is an easy walk over to the brewery and a close drive to all the attractions along Nelson 151. You can find out all of the latest camp news on this website.

Harvest Hosts for RVers: Join the Harvest Hosts membership club and take your RV to many Virginia wineries, breweries and farms for a one-night stay. Your one- night stay is included in your membership dues. You are only asked to buy some wine or beer or farm-to-table products during your visit.
WildManDan Beer Centric B&B: Stay in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, enjoy craft beer, and an excellent chef-made breakfast. It has been a hectic year, and this is just the retreat that you need. And the beer is excellent too…. We have stayed at WildManDan Beer Centric B&B, and we recommend it!

A Resort Weekend
Perhaps your idea of the perfect weekend get-a-way is a resort vacation. In the Shenandoah Mountains, Massanutten Resort is open for lodging, and the spa is open too. While there, you can enjoy some of their crafted cocktails and chef-inspired menus. The resort is perfect for a romantic get-a-way or a family-friendly weekend. Either way, you will also want to check out the ice cream and candy shop.

Team DW&S enjoyed visiting the BaseCamp for cocktails and appetizers on a beautiful Summer night. The resort does an excellent job of implementing best COVID guidelines, and a good time was had by all.

Earlier in 2020, DW&S produced a chef recipe eBook. As you browse the recipe collection, you will find a resort chef recipe for each season. Massanutten is a four-season retreat.
A Northern Virginia Sip & Stay
As we are vacationing close to home or enjoying a stay-cation, consider Northern Virginia as your destination. From B&Bs to boutique hotels, the northern region of Virginia has unique lodging options. And you may even want to hire a tour company to take you to the area breweries and wineries too!

As you plan your weekend escape, be sure to read a recent DW&S blog, Eat, Sleep and Drink in Loudon County.
You can also enjoy the Fall apple season in Winchester by booking lodging at The George Washington Grand Hotel. You can read about the dining and cocktail options at this grand hotel in our 2020 Summer eBook.

Or a B&B with a gourmet breakfast and a winery tour maybe your idea of an ideal escape. A group of Northern Virginia entrepreneurs has crafted a partnership that provides a beautiful collection of lodging, food, and wine. Read the DW&S review and book your weekend.
